Charles S. (Chuck) Schneider, long-time resident of Derby KS, died on January 19, 2025, while surrounded by family, at Rushwood Senior Living Memory Care Cottage in Wichita.
Born to Stanley and Dobrilla Schneider in Granite City, IL on September 5, 1936, Chuck spent his early years in the St. Louis area, being graduated from Soldan-Blewett High School of St Louis MO. He continued his education, sequentially, at St Louis College of Pharmacy, University of Washington in St. Louis, and University of Missouri School of Mines & Metallurgy (MSM - now, Missouri University of Science and Technology), by which he was awarded a BSEE in 1959.
Upon completion of his degree work, Chuck joined Boeing Military to work on B-52 navigation and weapon delivery systems, retiring from The Boeing Company nearly 35 years later as a product development team executive.
Chuck was active in City of Derby and State of Kansas Jaycees and served in many City of Derby volunteer positions, including two terms as city councilman. Following retirement from Boeing, Chuck furthered application of his leadership, organizational, and management skills by serving several years as a volunteer with SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) and 20 years as a volunteer in local, state, and regional levels of the American Red Cross Disaster Services organization. He was recognized as Midway-Kansas Chapter’s Volunteer of the Year in 2009, as Disaster Relief Hero in 2010, and was awarded membership in the Clara Barton Society in 2018.
Chuck was an active amateur radio operator during his teens, meeting his future wife (Evelyn Hall) on the air. They met in person at the MSM Amateur Radio Club. Chuck & Evelyn married January 1, 1958.
An avid jogger and free weights lifter for all his adult life, Chuck later enjoyed being on the golf course with his buddies. He claimed that his enthusiasm exceeded his skill.
Chuck served in the Missouri and Kansas Air National Guard units for a total of 12 years.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Alice.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn Schall; their daughters, Charlene Haynes (Tom) and Cheryl Schneider; granddaughter, Jennifer Haynes; great-grandsons, Gabriel and Michael Ronald; and sister, Helen Fletcher (T. Michael) and her family.
Chuck is to be buried in the Natural Burial Area of Ascension Cemetery in Bel Aire KS. No services are planned.
