Wichita - Charles Ray Greene 88, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Wesley Medical Center surrounded by family. He was born January 19, 1933 to Charlie and Pearl (McKinney) Greene in Bakersville, North Carolina.
Ray grew up in Bakersville and attended school through the 8th grade. He joined the Air Force in 1954 and was stationed in Wichita, KS. He met the love of his life; Mary Ann West and they were married before he was deployed to Korea. When he was discharged, he started worked for Boeing Aircraft Company and they lived in Oaklawn. They purchased a house in south Wichita in the 1960’s and he went to work in 1969 for The Cessna Aircraft Company from which he retired in 1998. They lived in the house in south Wichita until both of their passing.
He was an avid Braves and NASCAR fan, but his biggest joy was his family. Whether it was camping and fishing, attending baseball, softball, basketball or soccer games of his kids, grandchildren, or great grandchildren, you could find him there. He loved tinkering with things and would always have some project that he was working on from either a car/truck or a weed eater.
On Sept. 20, 1953 he married Mary Ann West and she preceded him in death.
Ray was also preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Pearl Greene, and his brother Richard Greene.
Ray is survived by his three sons Vern (Teri) Greene, Rick (Diana) Greene and John Greene.
Grandchildren Rebecca Greene and Rachel (George) Chandler, Nicole (Dakota) Hinkel, Charlie Greene, Jordan Greene and Taylor Greene. Great grandson Lucas Miller and Reed Yost, and sister Sue Woody.
Visitation: Tuesday, April 20th, 2021, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Smith Mortuary - Haysville 7031 S. Broadway Haysville, Kansas 67060. Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Smith Mortuary - Haysville 7031 S. Broadway Haysville, Kansas 67060. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery - 6231 W 47th St S, Wichita, KS 67215.
