Carol Dean Nelson, age 91, passed away while working in her yard, something she loved to do, on Sunday, June, 30, 2024. Carol was born October 15, 1932 in Strang, Oklahoma to Elmer Madison and Sylvia Marie Knox. She was the second born of three daughters, Avon Falke (deceased) and Gayle Knox of Prairieville, Louisiana.
Carol graduated from Kiowa High School in 1950. She eventually moved to Wichita, KS and worked as an Oil Secretary for the Garvey family. Mutual friends set her up on a blind date with Oliver Nelson from Rose Hill and they married on April 3, 1954. Oliver and Carol raised their three sons, Craig, Todd and Tim in Rose Hill, KS and celebrated 63 years of marriage until Oliver’s passing in July 2017.
Carol was a part of the Rose Hill community for over 70 years. She was active / volunteered at Rose Hill Schools, was a member of the Rose Hill United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Secretary/Treasurer of the Rose Hill Cemetery Association, Municipal Court Clerk, Boy Scouts, Rose Hill Senior Center, and a friend of the Rose Hill Library.
Carol is survived by her sister Gayle; sons Craig (Dalene) of Rose Hill, KS, Todd (Kim) of Lincoln, NE, Tim (Barb) of Wichita, KS; grandchildren Ryan (Ashley) Nelson of Raymore, MO, Nick (Casi) Nelson of Andover, KS, Kyle (Justine) Nelson of Shawnee, KS, Bart (Amelia) Hepker of Lincoln, NE, Molly (Vinny) Calcari of Lincoln, NE, Kelsey (Quinten) Shoopman, Wichita, KS, Madison (Zack) Kimble, Wichita, KS; and great-grandchildren Jhett and Ryker Nelson, Alex and Owen Nelson, Quinn Nelson, and Brooks and Tessa Hepker.
A private graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with the Rose Hill Cemetery Association, 914 Park Road Rose Hill, KS 67133, and the Rose Hill Public Library, 306 N. Rose Hill Road, Rose Hill, KS 67133.
