Carl Keith Slack of Derby, Kansas, passed away Friday, May 9th at the Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on July 15, 1938, the son of Lawrence and Naomi Lawless Slack. He attended the Barner Country School, the Oxford schools, Emporia State University, and Southwestern College, majoring in Industrial Arts. He was involved in the Future Farmers of America, the Kansas States Livestock team, football, basketball, and band.
Carl was united in marriage to Linda Biesemier in June of 1960. He is survived by his wife Linda, two sons Brian Slack (Lynn) of Andover, KS and Steve Slack (Marcia) of Belaire, KS, and four grandchildren, Melissa, Brett, Alden, and Audrey, five great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Nolan, Beckett, Mia, and Maddie. He is also survived by brothers Lawrence, Jr. (Shirley) of Oxford, KS, Neal (Mitzi) of Pretty Prairie, KS and one sister Trisha Kinnan of Derby, KS.
Carl helped on the family farm, and used his talents to frame homes and perform finish carpentry work. He built many homes in Wichita, Oxford, Udall and Derby. In 1967, he moved his family to Scott City to accept a job as District Manager for Allis Chalmers farm equipment, covering the area of western Kansas and eastern Colorado. In 1974 he was awarded Top Salesman by the Kansas branch of Case Corporation. He enjoyed the relationships built and time spent involved in farm equipment sales and service.
Carl loved to dance, garden (including sharing the bounty with neighbors and friends), fish, golf, and travel.
Carl was a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church of Derby, KS where services will be held at 10:30am Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Woodlawn United Methodist Church, or the Wounded Warrior Foundation in care of Smith Mortuary of Derby, Kansas.
