Carl Elmer Jenkins

Carl Elmer (Butch) Jenkins, 78, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, in Wichita.

Carl was born on March 28, 1948, and was lovingly adopted by Herbert E. Jenkins and Stella M. (Stringer) Jenkins. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later built a career as a powder coating estimator.

Family was an important part of Carl's life. He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Karel, and her husband Scott; his grandchildren, Ethan Brussow and his wife Maryssa, Caleb Brussow, Bella Karel, and Dylan Karel; and his great-grandchildren, Kensley Brussow, Hunter Brussow, and Oaklynn Brussow. He loved his family and treasured the time they shared together. Carl also had close connections with his cousins, who were more like siblings, as well as friends who became family over the years. These special bonds brought him laughter, love, and countless memories.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Stella M. Jenkins, and his daughter, Stella K. Jenkins.

Carl will be remembered for the life he lived, the people he loved, and the memories he leaves behind with those who knew and loved him.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Robert J. Dole VA Hospice Unit for the compassion, dignity, and exceptional care they provided Carl during his final days.

Family visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Smith Family Mortuary 1415 N. Rock Rd. Derby, KS 67037.

A graveside service will take place on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery 1208 N. College St., Winfield, KS 67156

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Robert J. Dole VA Hospice Unit in Carl's memory.
