Bruce was born on September 8, 1949 in Mishawaka, Indiana, to John W. “Jack” and Irene B. Heseltine. He was the youngest of three siblings, which included his brothers John and Scott. Eventually, the family moved to Sandy, Utah, where he graduated from Jordan High School, Later, Bruce went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Utah, as well as a Master’s Degree from University of Southern California.
After moving to California, Bruce married Margaret F. “Peggy” Newell in April 1969 in a ceremony officiated by his father. Peggy and Bruce then began a 29+ year adventure with the United States Air Force. The couple have two sons, Bruce P. “Phil” Jr., and Patrick R. “Ryan.” Bruce was an amazing dad who guided, supported, and often prodded the boys to follow their dreams. Both also pursued Air Force careers that made him tremendously proud.
Bruce grew up in a deeply Christian home, his father being a minister and Bible Camp leader. He lived a service-centered life deeply devoted to his faith, and gave of himself wherever life took him.

His career took him around the world with his family, connecting with countless friends, and creating lifelong memories. Through all the military moves, he and his family developed a close-knit bond, always bringing them closer together.
Over the years, Bruce especially enjoyed making new friends and neighbors, among the Air Force and the local community. He also loved watching his family grow and mature. He followed his five grandchildren’s interests and celebrated their achievements. Moving from California to Kansas in 2019 brought Bruce closer to his children and their families, which he had wanted for several years.
Traveling was one of Bruce’s many hobbies. Extended RV trips allowed him to meet people, enjoy friends, revisit places where they had lived, and discover new destinations. Another hobby which he cultivated later in life was his love for music and playing the trumpet. He was always enthusiastic about participating and contributing his time and talent to multiple ensembles and church worship groups.
Bruce is survived by his family who will love him forever, including his sons Phil and Ryan; daughters-in-law Jen (Phil) and Debi (Ryan); grandchildren Alexa, Kelsa, Livie, Kaleb, and Elise; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Bruce also counted a large circle of dear friends as family.
