McDaniels, Bonnie June, age 84, formerly of Derby, KS and Enid, OK, departed this world on Tuesday, October 25, 2011. Visitation with family 9-11am Friday, October 28 at Smith Mortuary, Derby. Private graveside services. Bonnie was born August 29, 1927, the daughter of Taylor Earl & Birdie Fern (Bonard) Horton; granddaughter of Jesse Wesley & Bertha May (Warner) Horton and Jasper Harry & Leodas Belle (Sturm) Bonard; great-granddaughter of Simon Taylor & Harriet (Atwood) Warner, Joseph & Delia (Sackett) Bonard, and Civil War veteran Jesse Tyler & Lavinia Jane (Hess) Sturm. Bonnie grew up on the family farm near Salt Fork, OK, during the Great Depression. With her dog Pat by her side, Bonnie worked and roamed the land claimed by her grandfather Jesse Horton at the opening of the Cherokee Strip. She rode her horse Peggy to Valley Forge Country School and graduated Hunter High School, Class of 1945. Bonnie was a beautician in Enid when she met Steve Guthrie. They married in 1950, and four years later moved to Derby, KS, where they raised three sons and a daughter. Between babies, Bonnie worked as a dispatcher at Boeing Aircraft, retiring with 17 years service. In 1974, she married the love of her life—“Mac”. Bonnie cherished traveling with “Mac”, her children, and her sister, Wanda. She also took time to make quilts for her grandchildren, cheer them at athletic and school events, and do home cooking. Noodles, red velvet cake, and sugar cookies were her specialties! Bonnie was preceded on her journey by her parents, son Steve Lee Guthrie, former husband Steve Leroy Guthrie, sister Wanda Lea (Horton) Scherer, and husband D.T. “Mac” McDaniels. Bonnie is survived by son David Alan Guthrie of Atlanta & his daughters Genny Lynn & Annie Marie by Jill Elaine (McBee) Guthrie; son Danny Lynn & Sharon Kay (Priess) Guthrie of Augusta & their children Steven James & Laura Marie; and daughter Cathy Ann (Guthrie) Wright of Douglass & her children with Richard Kevin Wright: Jason Lee, Katie Nicole (son Hunter Lee), & Jake Tucker. A memorial is established with Victory in the Valley, a non-profit cancer support organization in Wichita, KS.
