Wetzel, Betty Louise, 92, passed away Monday, September 14, 2015. She was born September 17, 1922 to Edward Calhoun and Laura Elizabeth (Starrett) Holbrook in Tahlequah, OK. She married Boin Lee Smith on November 6, 1943 in Great Bend, Kansas. After his death in 1952 she moved, along with her daughters, to Wichita, KS, where she worked for Cessna Aircraft. Betty married James Everett Wetzel in Winfield, Kansas on February 26, 1953. Betty was awarded a 25 year pin for her volunteer work at the Red Cross and enjoyed the Golden Age Club for many years.
In her later years she enjoyed her time at the adult center of Via Christi Hope. She was a long time member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. Betty loved traveling to visit her children and many favorite places. She particularly loved going to Galveston and visiting her sister, Della, in California. Later in her life she spent many wonderful years at Riverside Assisted Living.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and 13 brothers and sisters. Betty is survived by her children, Pat Binder and her husband Larry of Sugar Land, TX; Priscilla Clark and her husband Thomas of Friendswood, TX; Linda Bernabie of Noblesville, IN; and Tony Wetzel and his wife Betty, of Seattle, WA; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson.
Funeral: 2 pm, Friday, September 18, 2015 at Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, 115 S. Seneca, Wichita, KS 67213 with visitation 1 hour prior. Interment to follow at Old Mission Cemetery, 3424 East 21st St. North, Wichita, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. BOX 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
