ROSE HILL- Heidt, Betty L. (Wingate), 79, retired first grade teacher, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013. Betty was born July 11, 1933, to Richard and Lela (Harness) Wingate on a farm north of Attica, Kans. She attended Keystone and Attica Schools. After graduation, she moved to Emporia, where she attended Emporia State and obtained her teaching degree. She later attended WSU and earned her Master’s in Elementary Education. While teaching in Whitewater, Kans., she met and married Paul Heidt in 1956. Together they raised three children: Linda, Lucy, and Quentin. Betty was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, taught first grade for many years in Andover, was a member of the Midwest Genealogy Society, Rose Hill Lions Club, Butler County Retired Teacher Association, Rose Hill Red Hat Society, and Rose Hill Senior Center. Preceded in death by her parents Richard and Lela Wingate, in-laws George and Frances Heidt. Survived by husband Paul Heidt, Rose Hill; daughters Linda (David) Lacio, Rose Hill, Lucy (Marvin Winsel) Heidt, Wichita; son Quentin Heidt, Rose Hill; grandchildren Nic Lacio and Lindsay Parker, both of Wichita, and 5 great-grandchildren. Visitation 1-8 Wednesday, at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Funeral service 10 am Thursday, April 11, at Rose Hill United Methodist Church, with interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Rose Hill United Methodist Church, 19551 SW Butler Rd., Rose Hill, KS 67133.
