Barbara Daily

November 17, 1954 — February 16, 2023

Barbara Jean Daily, 68, died Thursday, February 16, 2023. She was born November 17, 1954, in Wichita, to Dwayn and Lou Brocklesby. She was raised in Garnett, Kansas until her father joined the Army and they moved to Wichita. At age 17 as a Senior in high school, she joined the CIT program with the Derby Police Department as a dispatcher. Barbara graduated from Derby High School in 1972. After graduation she worked for the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office in the records division.

She met her husband John in 1975. After dating for 6 months, they were married on August 27th, 1975, at the Methodist Church in Newton Kansas. Two years later in December their first daughter, Jennifer, was born.

She had other jobs over the years, but the ones that meant the most to her were the following: Sedgwick County EMS, her home daycare, and Sedgwick County 911 Dispatch. While working at EMS her son John was born. When her third child Jymme was born, she left Sedgwick County EMS and she started her home daycare which she continued for many years until her youngest child Jessica started Kindergarten. At that time, she went back to Sedgwick County 911 dispatch.

Barbara retired from 911 in 2017 as a Lieutenant. Helping her community and working with the other first responders was very fulfilling to her. She loved her job and the great men and women whom she worked with. She was the calm, loving voice on the other end of the phone to someone on their worst day, and she took great pride in that.

Her hobbies consisted of going to the lake with her kids and grandkids, swimming in the pool in her backyard with the family, riding motorcycles, going to the shooting range with her husband, crocheting blankets for her family, and going to sporting events for her children and grandchildren. She loved being outdoors. She just loved family time all around no matter what they were doing or where they were doing it. Being around her family meant everything to her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lou and Dwayn Brocklesby and her niece Cassandra Albers.

Barbara is survived by her husband John R Daily; sister Carla Loffland (Bob Loffland); brother Eddie Brocklesby (Sheryl Brocklesby); children Jennifer West (BJ West), John C Daily (Misa Daily), Jymme Gillespie (Kevin Gillespie) & Jessica Torres (Anthony Torres); 11 grandchildren, Savanna Arce`, Ashton Gillespie, Quinten Daily, Jocelyn Daily, Mason West, Reagan Gillespie, Myah Daily, Emery Daily, Kendry Torres, Carsyn Torres, and Eden Daily; 14 nieces and nephews.
