Arthur H. Tanner, of Rose Hill, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015 after a long illness. Visitation 1-8 PM Friday with family receiing friends 5-7 PM. Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Funeral service 10 AM Saturday, Rose Hill United Methodist Church. He was born September 22, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri to Brette Tanner and Irene Tanner (Ewing). Art grew up in Alva, Oklahoma where he was involved in scouting and earned the title of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Alva High School, attended Oklahoma University and graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. On June 4, 1966 he married Sue Mahaffey. In 1967 Art was commissioned as an Air Force Officer and he proudly served his country for the next 20 years. He then became a teacher for both Butler County Community College and the Mulvane Public School System. Art loved to travel in his RV, which gave him the chance to fish, four wheel and visit friends and family around the country. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Brette Tanner and Irene Tanner Ewing and his brother, Bill Rogers. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sue (Mahaffey) Tanner, his children Tracie VanHoutan, Niki Allen (Paul) and Brette Tanner (Lindsey), beloved dog and pal Bear, grandchildren, Casey, Nikolaus and Darby VanHoutan, Colby and Carson Tanner and one great grandson Tyberious VanHoutan, sister Ann Dillon, niece Sarah Glasgo and great niece Jayden Dillon. Memorials have been established with the Rose Hill United Methodist Church and The American Diabetes Association.
