In Loving Memory of Arthur Binford
Arthur W. Binford was born July 4, 1932, to parents, Wilbur and Edith Binford.
Memorial service 2:00pm, Saturday, January 29, 2022, at University Friends Church, 1840 W University, Wichita. Masks Required.
He graduated from North High, Wichita, Friends University, Wichita and Western Evangelical Seminary, Portland, Oregon, where he received Master’s Degree in Christian Education. He married Helen Stands Binford, August 29, 1957 at Lent’s Friends Church where he was assistant pastor while in seminary. He also worked at Ark Valley Wholesale Flowers.
Art & Helen were called as pastors of the Argonia Friends Church in Argonia, Kansas. While there they were blessed with two girls, Cindy and Charla.
In October 1968, Art was recorded as minister in the Friends (Quaker) church while at Argonia. Not long after, they were called to University Friends Church in Wichita, as minster of Christian Education to children. Upon leaving University Friends Church they were called to First Presbyterian Church in Wichita, as minister to children.
After serving at First Presbyterian, Art changed to work with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at the United Way of the Plains in Wichita. After several years with the program he transferred to United Way’s Information Center which later became known as InfoLine and today is known as 2-1-1. He also served on several non-profit committees in the community.
Art retired after working with United Way for 25 years. He then became involved with Hadley Quaker Room at Friends University. He also helped organize and served on the board for the West Wichita Shepherd Center which has educational classes for older persons. He also worked on call for Culbertson Smith Mortuary.
Art is survived by his wife Helen, of 64 years, daughters, Cindy Burke (Kevin) and Charla Kremer (Rod), 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Day (Wil), Justin Bosley, Amy Bosley (Craig), Lauren Kremer, Kevin Paul Burke (Shelly), 4 great-grandchildren, Clark Day, Izaya and Tesslyn Burke, plus baby Day on the way, Art’s sister, Sue Muhlenbruch (Ron), nieces, nephews and cousins.
