Roberts, Ann Marie, 67, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, August 13th, 2024. She was born August 20th, 1956 to Joyce and Mabel Roberta Sooter in Wichita, Kansas.
Ann’s love for others was evident from an early age while working at Head Start teaching young immigrant students. Later, while working her way through college, she was a house parent for a group of disabled women. She recalled many heartwarming stories from those days. Ann graduated from Emporia State University with a Master’s Degree in 1981 and proceeded to work for the state of Kansas as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor helping disabled adults obtain meaningful employment. Later, she chose to be a stay-at-home mom as her family grew to include 3 children. She was active in her church, teaching and leading adult and children’s programs for several years. As she followed her children to high school, she worked in the Derby High School office, organizing substitute teachers, answering telephones, and counseling students as they came through the office. Her calm demeanor was a bright light to students and fellow employees alike. Ann retired in 2018 and continued to be active at Aviator Church, now OneChurch, until her disease started taking its toll both physically and mentally. Throughout it all she maintained the same calm demeanor she always exhibited.
