Alvin O. Newell

Alvin O. Newell, of Derby, 83, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015. Born February 3, 1932 in Damar, KS to Armond and Ruby (Thibault) Newell, Alvin served in the Army during the Korean War. He moved to Wichita in 1955, first as a welder, then as a machinist at Boeing. Always working with his hands, his creative projects involved his family, his friends, and his church. As a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, he served in many capacities including school boards and coaches of local baseball and softball teams. Alvin is survived by his wife, Louise, of 63 years; children, Suzanne Pfeifer, Dennis Newell, Cindy (Pat) James, Dianne (Jean) Clark, Nancy (Tracy) Kendrick, Sherry (Chip) Reed, Larry Newell, and Mike (Caren) Newell; his siblings, Ernest, MaryAnn, Theresa, Kathleen, Vincent, Donald, Bernard, Eunice, Martha, Norman, Josephine, and Irma; 23 grand-children; 24 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson. Visitation: Wednesday from 1 to 5 at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby, KS 67037. Rosary: 7 pm, Wednesday at St. Mary Faith Center. Funeral: 10 am, Thursday, June 25, 2015 at St. Mary Faith Center. Interment follows at Calvary Cemetery. Contributions in his memory can be sent to the St. Mary Building Fund, 2300 E.
