Allen G. Moore

February 8, 1946 — May 12, 2016

Allen Gardner Moore was born in Santa Paula, CA on February 2, 1946. He died May 12, 2016 at home with his wife, Karen Carson.

Most of his growing up was in Kansas City, MO. Three accomplishments which were important to him were his high school diploma, becoming an Eagle Scout and taking culinary training. He never lost the moral compass he learned in scouting and the culinary training was used throughout his life.

Most significant during his teens he met the love of his life music and drums. He became a professional drummer at 16 and did not stop until his death. For 20 years he and his band Hoodoo Blues played throughout the Midwest. His final band was the Ghost Riders.

He married Karen S. McMillan who had two small daughters, Mimi and Tina. He did not give up his music but leaned on his culinary training and a variety of other skills (hazard chemical transport, selling the first auto diagnostic equipment, managing a Goodyear Auto Store) to continue his music and provide for his family. Karen would become the female vocalist for Hoodoo Blues after her daughters left home.

Of course, being from Kansas City, he also loved to smoke meats and owned several BBQ places the last being the Honky Tonk BBQ in Udall, KS with his current wife Karen Carson. The Wichita Ghost Riders became the restaurant’s house band.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 36 years Karen McMillan Moore.

He married Karen Carson in October 8, 2013. She was a vocalist for the Ghost Riders and his partner in the Honky Tonk BBQ. Their love of music and good food brought them much joy during their not nearly long enough time together.

He will be honored at a blues jam by the Magic in his honor at 9:00 p.m., June 22, at the Driftwood in Wichita, 1204 E. MacArthur. His ashes will be placed per his instructions on October 8, in Kansas City, following another memorial jam at 2 pm, at B.B.'s Lawnside BBQ, 1205 E. 85th Kansas City, Missouri. Updates will be posted on Wichita Musicians Facebook page, Karen Carson Facebook page and the Honky Tonk BBQ (htbbq@yahoo.com) Facebook page.
