Alice Mae Sumner

Alice Mae Sumner, 83, retired kindergarten teacher, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017. Visitation at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby, 1-8 p.m. Wednesday, with family present 4-6 p.m. Funeral service 10 a.m. Thursday, at South Rock Christian Church, 900 S. Rock Rd., Derby. Alice taught at El Paso Elementary School in Derby for 27 years. Her love for God, her family and friends shone through in all she did. She was active in many facets of the First Christian Church/South Rock Chritian Church for 58 years. Alice also volunteered at the Senior Center and was a member of A to Z Teachers' Sorority. In December, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Sumner. She is survived by children Cindy (Mark) Wiltse, Marc (Cathy) Sumner; grandchildren Blair (Brette) Sumner, Tyler Sumner, Kristi Wiltse, and Caleb Wiltse; great-granddaughter Isabella Sumner; and niece Jan Aves. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with South Rock Christian Church.
