Peggy Jo Strait

Strait, Peggy Jo, 80, was called home and is at peace as she reunites with her husband and daughter.

She was born July 5, 1945, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Fred St. and Lorena Mae Burnham.

On September 5, 1964, she married Hershel D. Strait. Together they raised three daughters, Benita, Teresa and Marjorie on a small farm in Udall, Kansas and spent 51 years of life together.

Peggy enjoyed reading, camping, fishing and road trips with Hershel. They made a tradition of taking the grandkids to Braum’s for dinner and ice cream and then Island Park at Christmas. Grandma Peggy also enjoyed the Udall Water Park with the great grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Burnham, Sr. and Lorena Mae Burnham; her husband, Hershel Dean Strait; daughter, Marjorie Gail Strait; brother, Fred Burnham, Jr.; sisters, Linda Willis and Jeannie Kirby; as well as her beloved dog, GusGus Cotton Candy.

Peggy is survived by her daughters, Benita and Lucky Thornton and Teresa and Brett Russell; grandchildren, Joshua and Jennifer Russell, Amanda and Kevin Conrad, Amy and Ismail Mbalima and Samantha and Heath Snedeker; seven great-grandchildren, Maddalyn, Wyatt, Sophia, Elizabeth, Denzil, Sara, and Ella; brothers, Gene Burnham and Mike Burnham.

A visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Friday, July 10, 2026. Funeral service is 10:00am on Saturday, July 11, 2026, both at Smith Family Mortuary – Mulvane.
