Elmo Jesse Brawley went to be with the Lord on August 8, 2025. He was born on March 3, 1933, near Piedmont, Missouri, to William (Bill) T. and Neoma (Worley) Brawley. On August 30, 1952, he married Ina Ray Crites in Pocahontas, Arkansas.
Elmo graduated from Des Arc High School in Des Arc, Missouri, and later attended Bailey Technical School in St. Louis, Missouri. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Following his military service, he worked for Allied/Signal Corporation, retiring in 1994 as a Product Support Supervisor after 35 years of dedicated service.
A faithful member of Pleasantview Baptist Church since 1973, Elmo served in various lay positions. He was active in Disaster Relief with the Heart of Kansas Southern Baptist Association, on the Baptist Foundation Board for the Kansas-Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists, and with Gideon’s International, where he served in both camp and state offices.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Monroe and Walter Clyde Brawley; sisters, Wilma Fay Brinkley and Shirley May Pennington.
Elmo is survived by his wife, Ina Ray Crites; children, Gary Alan Brawley of Pensacola, FL and Carol Jean Maddox of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Ryan Wayne Maddox (wife, Paula Maddox), Calvin Dean Maddox and Jessica Rae Brawley.
Visitation: Monday August 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 at Smith Family Mortuary 1415 N. Rock RD, Derby, KS 67037 and Service: Pleasantview Baptist Church 1335 N. Buckner St. Derby KS 67037. Interment to follow at 1:00 PM at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Winfield, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gideon's International or Pleasantview Baptist Church.
