Obituary for Zay A. Jimeson

Jimeson, Zay A. (Guffy), 104, retired farmer and stockwoman, died Friday, April 14, 2023. Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Mulvane Church of Christ, 4th and Arkansas, Mulvane, KS. Burial will follow at the Mulvane City Cemetery.

She was born August 3, 1918, on the family farm near the Fish Hatchery area of Byron, OK, to James and Jessie (Sluder) Guffy. She attended school in the Byron area, graduating from Byron High School in 1936. Zay married Wendell Jimeson on July 22, 1938, in Kingman KS. They made their first home in Byron, later moving to Norwich and Mulvane before settling on their family farm in Udall in 1953. She continued to work the farm until health issues required her to move to “town” in 2019.

Preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Wendell; her daughter-in-law, Connie Jimeson, son-in-law, Kenny Keely; three brothers, Monroe, Luther and Wayne Guffy and five sisters, Mary Guffy, Nellie Guffy, Eloise Denninghoff, Ruth Lewis, and Bernice Joseph. Survivors include her daughter, Retha Keely; son, J.R. Jimeson; grandchildren, Kyle Keely, Kelly (Pat) York, Dedra (Ken) Chapman, Lamecia (Loren) Rockey, Todd (Jean-Marie) Jimeson, Trudi (Ray) Freeman; great-grandchildren, Kraig (Amanda) Keely, Valerie (Dylan) Moyer, Devon York, Blake Chapman, Keely (Zach) Palmer, Zack (Kelsey) Rockey, Caleb Rockey; great-great-grandchildren, Phoenix and Gaiton Keely, Corbin, Joella, and Drystan Moyer, Cameron and Hayden Rockey; two sisters, Jennie Fischer, Grace Wessels; special cousin, Patricia Sluder and multiple extended family members. Memorials may be made to the Udall Historical Society, 109 E 1st St, Udall, KS 67146.
