Obituary for Wayne Harrold

Harrold, Wayne H., was born Sept. 2, 1928, in Manhattan, KS to Clara (Smith) and LeRoy Harrold. The family moved to the Cassville, MO area in 1934. Wayne’s father worked for an electric company in Nebraska. Wayne attended Horner school and graduated in 1947 from Cassville High School. After high school he worked for a large farmer in Hugoton, KS until he was drafted in the Army. He served in Korea for two years. Wayne was discharged from the Army at Fort Carson, CO; and on his way home to Cassville, MO, he stopped in Wichita to visit a friend, and from that stop he was offered a job at the new Globe Engineering on Indiana Street. Wayne worked for Globe Engineering for almost 40 years.
Hope Hamilton and Wayne were introduced by mutual friends, Kenny and Hazel Wayman in March 1971. They were married Oct. 28, 1972.
Wayne was very involved in the VFW for about 30 years. He was the Commander for VFW Post 5475. He served as a District 5 Commander. He was proud that he was able to institute the Maize, KS Post. He was a member of the Haysville Post at the time of his death.
Wayne was very capable of building, wiring, and plumbing which he did a lot of during the years. He was in the process of re-wiring the barn when he fell ill.
Wayne loved to sing and played a guitar when he was younger. Hope said she thought Wayne could sing for 24 hours and not sing the same song twice. Wayne sang in the church choir for several years and sang solos in church during the summer when the choir was on vacation.
Wayne loved to travel, and he and Hope spent 6 winters in Arizona where they made many friends.
Wayne loved being outside and camping; there is nothing better than a good campfire. He enjoyed trout fishing in Roaring River, MO and Lake City, CO. He took care of David and Joe Hamilton’s cattle for several years, loving to take care of a large yard, garden, and many trees that he had planted – for as long as he was able.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Elmore, and Genevieve Harrold; and a brother, Dean Harrold, all of Cassville, MO.; a sons, David Hamilton from Belle Plaine and Russel Harrold from Augusta, KS.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Hope; a sister Doris MacDougall, Springfield, MO; son, Joe (Michelle) Hamilton, of Belle Plaine, KS and Barry Harrold of Kansas City; daughters-in-law, Jana Hamilton of Belle Plaine, KS and Lois Harrold of Augusta, KS; grandchildren, Ashley (Dan Himelic) Hamilton, Nick (Vivian) Hamilton, Austin (Kylie) Hamilton, Mallory (David) Storts; great-grandchildren, Maverick and Molly Storts, Jocelyn Himelic, Hunter Hamilton, Ellie and Ryker Hamilton – four other grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Wayne loved his family and had a nickname for most of them. He was loved and will be missed greatly!
