Obituary for Vera M. Sharp

Sharp, Vera Marie Nelson, 85, passed away peacefully after a long illness, on January 20, 2024, at her daughter Teresa’s home, in Haysville, KS. She was born on July 12, 1938, in Wichita, KS to Genevieve Lurene (DeShazer) Nelson and Francis Theodore Nelson.

Vera married Richard Sharp on June 12, 1956, they owned and operated the family business, Sharp’s Corner, in Higgins Lake, MI from 1968-1977, where she loved interacting with the customers. After selling the business, they moved to Hernando Florida, where she worked at the local Walmart until retirement.

Vera was a woman of faith and always had an extra potato in the pot for unexpected guests. She loved to sing and was a second mom to her children’s friends. She also loved all kinds of animals from roosters to dogs.

Vera was predeceased by her parents; husband, Richard; step-father, James Arthur Nelson; sons; Richard and John Sharp; brothers, Thomas Gerald Nelson, Frankie Joe Nelson; sisters, Winona Lurene Nelson, Mary Louise Nelson and Donna Jean Connor Daugherty.

Survivors include her children, Donna (Jim) Kolka of Roscommon, MI, Katherine (Eddie) Solero of Whitestone, NY, Shelly Sharp of Santa Barbara CA, Teresa Harder of Haysville, KS; John’s wife, Tammy Sharp of Hernando FL; brother-in-law, Frank Sharpe of Higgins Lake, MI, also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, one niece and four nephews.

Celebration of life is 10:00am Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Prairie Trail Cowboy Church, Haysville KS.
