Obituary for Sylvia M. Duran

In loving memory of our mother, Sylvia Duran, who passed away on
February 26th, 2023. Born 5/1/38 in Fort Collins, CO to Art and Ruth
Plumb, she was a devoted wife to Daniel (Tony) Duran for more than 65
years. She was the loving mother of seven children.
Our mother was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the
needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced
every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. She was a woman of
strong faith and she instilled in us the importance of family and hard
work having worked her entire life in composing rooms of newspapers
(Tri-City Herald, Los Angeles Herald Examiner, The Reno
Gazette-Journal). Her reputation as a skilled composer preceded her. Our
mother was a true role model.
Sylvia was predeceased by her siblings Kenneth, Darlene and Rodney,
children Darl, Connie and Paul Duran, and her grandchild Tejae Carlson.
She is survived by her husband Tony, brother Ronnie, children Susan
(Robert), Beki (Mike), Rick, and Stacey (Dave), her grandchildren Robert,
Autumn (Matt), Daniel (Katie), Lane (Rebecca), Lizzy, Robbie, Tasha and
Josh, plus many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
There will be a Rosary at Smith Funeral Home in Derby, KS, 4:00 pm, Friday, March 3, 2023. Services will also be held at a later date in Kennewick, WA.
