Obituary for Shawn Patrick Bruce

Shawn Patrick Bruce, 46, of Wichita Kansas passed away Wednesday August 26, 2020. Shawn was born on June 12, 1974, in Kansas City Kansas to Wanda and Terry Bruce. He is survived by his parents Wanda Maxton and Terry Bruce (KCK), step-fathers Don L’Heureux (FL) and Mike Maxton of Wichita; his brother Michael Bruce (LaDonna), step-brother Don L’Heureux Hebert (Jennie); his four children Damara Graciano, Shawn Jr., Taylor, and Trace; his five grandchildren Layla, Serenity , Arista, Mikilo and River; a niece Rome Bruce, and his companion Annette, along with many loving relatives and friends.

Shawn attended Derby High School and was part of the JROTC program. That was a natural choice as he grew up experiencing the military brat lifestyle, while living in the states of New Jersey, Maine, New Mexico, and Kansas. He later served in the USAF and was stationed at Tyndall AFB, Florida assigned to the Motor Pool where he learned his craft.

He had a love of cars and spent several years as an auto technician with Firestone. His hobbies included cars, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle whenever he could, playing classic video games and binge watching and debating his favorite science fiction movies and series like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. He enjoyed reading non-fiction works as well and would surprise you with his knowledge of history. He loved puzzles, playing Farkle, card games and dominoes with family, but he would jokingly say, you have to keep your eye on Grandma!

He loved family holiday gatherings, especially Christmas and welcomed time spent with his grandchildren on those occasions. The 4th of July celebration was always a favorite tradition spent at his brother’s each year watching local fireworks displays in the distance, while lighting up the sky with their own.
Shawn was a loving father to his children. He was proud of what each had accomplished as young adults, always encouraging them to strive to be the best they can be.

The family will have a private Celebration of Life gathering to be determined..
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to American Heart Association, 1861 N Rock Rd #380, Wichita, KS 67206 or the Kansas Human Society , 3313 N Hilside, Wichita KS 67219
