Obituary for Roy Gene Williams

Roy Williams, Rose Hill, KS, 80, was called home to our Lord on September 25th, 2022.
He was born on January 5th ,1942 in LaCrosse (Izard County), Arkansas to Corbett and Florence Williams. He was the youngest of 8 children. Roy spent his childhood days attending school in Melbourne, Arkansas and causing lots of mischief with his older brothers. Roy spent time helping his parents who were cotton sharecroppers. After he graduated high school in 1959, he joined the US Army. He went through boot camp at Ft. Hood, Texas, and training at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. Roy was stationed in Germany where he stayed until he was discharged in 1962. After a short return home to Arkansas, he decided to move to Wichita, KS to find work. Roy worked some odd jobs during his first few months in Wichita. Then, an opportunity presented itself to become a Wichita Firefighter in 1963. While in Wichita, at church, he saw Paula Duren who he knew from school in Arkansas. He instantly fell in love with her, and they were married on December 7th, 1963. The happy couple welcomed their first son Kevin Gene on December 5th, 1964, and their second son Phillip Aaron on February 23rd, 1969. During his 20 years of serving on the Fire Department he made it to the rank of Captain and retired from the position of Fire Protection System Specialist in 1983. After retirement he started his own business, Williams Fire Protection Maintenance where he inspected, tested and repaired automatic fire sprinkler systems. Eventually, he closed the business and worked as a payroll auditor for “The Audit Store” based out of Kansas City, KS. Roy retired fully in 2017.
Roy was a hard-working man who loved his family dearly. He enjoyed wood working and fishing any chance he could. Roy loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Bridgeport Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Kevin Williams, 5 brothers, James Williams, Lenoard Williams, Otto Williams, Howard Williams, Glen Williams, 2 sisters, Mildred Cooper, Annie Weaver.
Survivors include, his wife of 58 years Paula, son Phillip (Melissa), 5 Grandchildren: Ashley, Joshua, Timothy (Hannah), Kristopher, Whitney (Brandon) and 10 great grandchildren: Chase, Morgan, Jessalynn, Hayleyann, Chloee, Kristopher, Blake, Kallie, Colton, Amara.

Visitation is Friday September 30th, 2022, from 6pm-8pm at Smith Family Mortuary at 1415 N. Rock Rd. Derby, KS 67037

Funeral service is 2pm Saturday October 1st, 2022, at Bridgeport Missionary Baptist Church at 6161 S. Meridian Wichita, KS, 67217

Interment following services at Greenwood Cemetery, 6231 W. 47th St. S. Wichita, KS 67215.
