Obituary for Roger Johansen

Roger Dale Johansen was born July 14, 1936 to Oliver and Ella Mae (Miner) Johansen in Friend, Nebraska, and passed away October 11, 2019 at the age of 83 years. He attended schools in Friend and graduated there in 1954.

He left the family farm at the age of 18 and moved to Wichita where he entered the aircraft business, working at Lear Jet, Cessna, and retiring from Boeing as a technical illustrator in 1999.

In 1958 he was married to LaVonna Pitts, and together they had 4 children.

Roger was a man of many interests and hobbies including the many forms of art that he created; photography, camping, traveling (especially the mountains of Colorado), sports, and was an avid western history buff. He was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist for 28 years.

After retirement, Roger and LaVonna were busy in the antique and collectible business, and he also worked for a local mortuary.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister Sharon.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years LaVonna; sons Greg (Teresa) Johansen, Mark (Darlene) Johansen, Tom (Kathy) Johansen, daughter Susie Johansen, all of Wichita; 11 grandchildren: Jessica Johansen, Laura Johansen, Samantha Stueder, Hollyann Johansen, Kaitlin Willcutt, Matt Haner, Andy Johansen, Nick Johansen, Eric Johansen, Garrett Lahar, Terra Hampel, 17 great-grandchildren, a sister, Karolyn Pospisil, cousins, and many friends.

He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
