Obituary for Robert "Bob" Riedmiller

Robert (Bob) George Riedmiller, a proud veteran of the US Air Force, peacefully passed away at Glen Carr House Memory Care and went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2023. He was 91 years old. Born 26 July 1932 in Blair, Nebraska, Bob was the oldest son of Joe and Marie Riedmiller. He grew up in Glasco, Kansas and attended Kansas State University. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 4 years.

He married Shirley Flewelling, joined the U.S. Air Force, and continued his military career, traveling across the United States and Germany with his wife and family. He valued this service highly and would later retire after 20 years of military service. He and his family settled in Augusta, KS. He went on to work at Skelly Oil Refinery in El Dorado, KS as an Electrical Technician, retiring at the age of 65. Bob and Shirley later made their home in Derby, KS.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Shirley, his five children: David (Glenda), Marcia, Karen Romero (Joey), Roger (Barbara Joyce), and Barbara, as well as eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his brother Gary (Karen), and sisters Carole Ann Scott (Robert) and Mary Cornwell (Charles). He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe & Marie Riedmiller, and his sister and her husband Jeannie & Jerry Goscha, and other extended family members. Bob was an avid sports enthusiast. He was always present to mentor and give his two cents to his children and grandchildren. He had a passion for fishing and hunting, creating cherished family memories. Fishing with Grandpa was always a treat for the grandchildren, especially when they caught the bigger fish or if Grandpa didn’t catch anything. Bob possessed an uncanny ability to fix anything, whether it was plumbing, mechanical, or electrical. His love for problem-solving and reverse engineering was infectious. Following his Air Force retirement,
Bob was able to have a beautiful garden, and the family eagerly anticipated the bountiful harvest. While we mourn the loss of his physical presence, we will forever carry forward the legacy of his strength, compassion, and wisdom.
