Obituary for Bob Rader

Robert "Bob" Covell Rader passed away on April 22, 2024, at the age of 66. Bob was born on August 8, 1957, to Oscar "Lee" and Venita Rader.

Bob was the youngest of four sons. He graduated from ACCHS in Effingham, KS in 1975 where he held the school discus record for 47 years. He played football in college for Cowley County CC and Friends University and graduated with majors in Business Administration and Business Education in 1979. He worked at Boeing in Wichita from 1980 until his retirement in 2012. It was at Boeing in 1980 where he met his wife, Nancy Kroening. They united in marriage on April 24, 1982, and lived in Derby, KS where they raised 3 children together.

Bob enjoyed watching, playing, and coaching many various sports throughout his life and as his kids were growing up. He spent his retirement golfing, attending grandchildren’s activities, walking, and staying active at the Derby Recreation Center. Bob loved striking up conversations with anyone he met and prided himself on the art of negotiation. He was the president of his neighborhood HOA.

Bob is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy; children, Amy (AJ) Buhrman of Clearwater KS, Nick Rader of Hutchinson KS, Kayla (Grant) Snider of Wichita KS; grandchildren, Wade, Luke, Jake, Tessa Buhrman and Anna, Trent, Logan, Miles, Will Snider; mother, Venita of Effingham KS; brothers, Larry of Arlington AZ, Steve (Maggie) of Ottawa KS; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws.

He is preceded in death by his father Oscar "Lee" of Effingham KS and his brother David of Manhattan KS.

Visitation: Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Smith Family Mortuary (1415 N. Rock Road Derby, KS 67037). Rosary: Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 10:00 am and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Mary Catholic Church (2300 E. Meadowlark, Derby, KS 67037). Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Greater Wichita YMCA
