Obituary for Mildred L. Hutcherson

Mildred Louise (Bishop) Hutcherson, was born November 4, 1922, and died on January 13, 2024, at the age of 101.

Born in Russellville, Arkansas on November 4, 1922, Mildred spent much of her childhood working on the farm.

Married in 1939, Mildred and her husband Leon decided to move to Wichita in 1950. For most of her married years she was a homemaker. Leon didn’t want her to work. She did a short stint at Boeing in the 1950’s.

Leon had a heart attack at age 48 and he wasn’t able to return to Boeing so Mildred went to work at St. Joseph Hospital where she worked for 22 years, retiring at age 68.

Mildred was widowed at age 49 with two children still in school.

Mildred loved the Lord and was an active member of Praise Assembly from its beginning in 1956. She served in several positions, her favorite being children ministries. She spent many years teaching toddlers. She loved children and they seemed to love her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leon Hutcherson, who she married on October 7, 1939; her parents Marion Washington and Libby Bishop; brother Cecil Bishop; sisters Aileen (Harold Ray) Wilson and LaJune (Dean) Wilkerson.

She is survived by her children Bonita (Reuben) Siverling, LaJuan Hutcherson, Sherry (Bill) Parsons, Michael (Lori) Hutcherson; grandchildren Pam (Kent) Lack, Kimberly (Richard, dec'd) Gallagher, Sheila Callen, Andrew Hutcherson, Jarod (Andrea) Hutcherson, Lindsay (Jaime) Sallee, Shelli Box, Joel Parsons; great-grandchildren Noah, Elijah, Daniel, Benjamin, Emma, and Oliver; sister-in-law Grace Bishop. She was soon to be a great-great-grandmother.

Visitation 2-4pm Sunday, January 21, with Funeral services 10am Monday, January 22, all at Smith Mortuary in Derby. Interment will follow in the El Paso Cemetery. A memorial has been established with the Praise Assembly of God Church.
