Obituary for Michael Colibert

Michael Allen Colibert
September 13, 1955 - October 12, 2022

Mike, known to many as “Porkchop”, peacefully passed away at the age of 67, with his family by his side.

Mike was preceded in death by his loving parents, Claude and Elsie (Carr) Colibert.

Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Sherri Colibert (and little dog, Daisy May) of Peck, KS; son, Travis and wife Heather Colibert (grandson Carson) of Derby, KS; daughter, Tamera and husband Zach Cornett (grandsons Grant and Clint) of Peck, KS; and sister, Tish Colibert of Wichita, KS. He is also survived by nieces, cousins, and many family members from Utah. He also gained a large extended family after marrying Sherri. He did learn at a young age that he was adopted. In March 2022, Mike had the pleasure of meeting a biological brother, Dave Kilgore of Wichita, KS as well as additional extended family members.

Mike graduated from Wichita West High in 1973. His favorite past time, while in school, was working on and building muscle cars. It was his Chevelle that caught Sherri’s eye in February 1975. They later married on October 22, 1977. Two years later, they bought their forever home and raised their children in Peck, Kansas.

As a young man, Mike followed in his father’s footsteps and worked at various trucking companies. In August 1980, he began his career driving for ABF Freight System, Inc and was a driver for 37 years. He happily retired as #1 in seniority in 2017. Mike also served as a Union Steward for many years and was a proud member of local Teamstears Union #795.

Mike took great pride and joy in his family, quiet weekends at Fall River, adventures with his in-laws Bob and Edna Grant, but especially time spent with his three grandsons.

Despite being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2016, he never gave up the fight and continued to celebrate all of his milestones-big or small! He had so many Happy Days! Much support coming from his large circle of family and friends- near and far!

A memorial service will be held at Haysville United Methodist Church-601 E Grand Ave-on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 1:00pm. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held in Peck, KS.

It is the twinkle in his eye, his warm smile, and his wicked sense of humor that will be missed by many. Not to mention his genuine bear hugs!

May he Rest In Peace and Love.
