Obituary for Merla Leroy "Red" Alexander

MCKINNEY, TX - Merla Leroy "Red" Alexander
On Friday, December 18, 2020 Merla Alexander, cherished husband and father passed away at home in McKinney, TX at the age of 92. Merla was born May 19, 1928 in Newkirk, OK to Tiney and Effie Alexander. He married Jeanie Kendrick on June 19, 1954. They raised their family in Wichita, KS where he retired from Cessna Aircraft Company in 1982 after 30 years working as a Quality Assurance Inspector. The couple moved to McKinney, TX in 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Jeanie, his parents Tiney and Effie, brothers Ray and John, sisters Leona Bell and Leta Morgan, infant son Tommy Joe and daughter Sueona Norton. Merla is survived by his sons Michael (Tammy) of Wentzville, MO, Jerry (Tammy) of McKinney, TX and son-in-law Gene Norton of Arkansas City, KS, brothers, Leslie (Wilma Jean) and Norman (Glenna) Alexander and sister Ruth Ann (Gerald) Hoepfinger; grandchildren Jeff, Kevin and Todd (Donna) Stephenson, Nathan (Crystal), Ryan (Sarah), Cody (Meghan) Alexander, Trisha (Jerry) Dodson, Jeremy (Michele) Alexander and Amy (Andy) Bott; 29 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Visitation is Tuesday December 22, 2020 from 6 to 8 pm at Smith Mortuary, 1415 North Rock Road, Derby, KS 67037. Funeral service is 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Haysville, 125 S Delos, Haysville, KS. Interment to follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Arkansas City, KS.
