Obituary for Margaret Harden

Margaret Harden, 73, went to be with the Lord on December 26th, 2022. She was born August 11, 1949 to George and Margaret (Connolly) Lyons.

Margaret was a devoted wife to her husband, Robert Allen Harden, of 49 years. As a student at Ohio State University, she worked one summer at Paper Linen where met Adeline Harden. Adeline encouraged Margaret to write letters to her son who was servicing in the Marine Corp in Vietnam. When he returned home from the service, he insisted on meeting Margaret in-person. Robert was studying electrical engineering at DeVry University. They fell in love and were married on October 20, 1973.

Margaret earned a master’s degree in early childhood development from Ohio State University and became an excellent preschool teacher, remembered by many of her former students. She retired from The Learning Garden in Derby, KS in May 2007. Margaret was a social butterfly. She knew everyone, and everyone knew Margaret!

As a family the Harden’s loved to travel! With young kids, they played at Dolly World and Silver Dollar City. Some of Margaret’s favorite vacations were to Colorado! She loved Estes Park and riding the trolly up to the top of Pike’s Peak in The Rocky Mountains. She also enjoyed exploring the rock formations at Garden of the Gods. Margaret was an adventurous woman! She took her family whitewater river rafting through The Grand Tetons, and to the geysers in Yellowstone National Park! She marveled at The Grand Canyon, Moab, Arches National Park, Painted Desert, Petrified Forrest, and all the beauty of nature.

Margaret loved to sew! She made Christmas stockings, tree skirts, ornaments and decorations for her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and baker. Making sugar cookies with her grandkids was a favorite activity. For many years Margaret bowled on a team called the Gutter Gals! She played Bunco in multiple groups. And she never missed her water aerobics class!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and George Lyons; grandmother, Jessie Connolly; aunt Crystal and uncle Walter Connolly.

Margaret is survived by her loving husband, Robert Harden; her adoring children, Shawn Harden, Mitchell Harden, Jamie (Harden) Miller; her cherished grandchildren, Dylan and Alaura Miller.

Margaret LOVED flowers! Let’s fill the sanctuary and turn it into a botanical garden!
