Obituary for Mary "Joyce" Bailey

Mary “Joyce” Bailey, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 28, 2023. She is now re-united with beloved parents, siblings, daughter, and granddaughter in her heavenly home. Her dedication to her faith leaves no doubt in the glory and grace of the moment she met our Lord.

Joyce was born to Gus and Olga Bergkamp on November 14, 1943, in St. Joe Ost, KS. The 6th child of 8, her childhood on the farm in Arkansas City was full of life with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was blessed with an extended family that were life long friends, with generations committed to follow suit.

Joyce married her love, Gary Bailey on January 27, 1968. Together they raised four children, and hosted every holiday and celebration at their home in west Wichita, with meals, sweets, and games at all.

Hundreds of apple, chocolate, and pumpkin pies were made with her love over the years, as well as many other yummies. Those pie pans could tell some stories! She never lost a game of cards, but speculation of cheating gained you a mean side eye.

In 1995 she gained the title “Grammy” when the first of 6 grandchildren came along. Bryce, Cooper, Bridget, Brody, Leah, and little angel Cassie gave her so much happiness. Many days and nights of babysitting, rides to and from school, and cheering at sporting events kept her busy.

When asked every year what she wanted for Christmas, she always replied “Peace on Earth”.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gene and Tim; sisters, Hilda and May Rose; daughter, Christy; and granddaughter Cassie.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Gary; son, Todd (Daina) Bailey; daughters, Susan (Mitch) Adams and Angela (Scott) Tomlinson; grandchildren; brothers, Quinten, Delmar and Fr. Roger; as well as many more family and friends.

Recitation of the Rosary will be 10:00 am with Memorial Mass at 10:30 am Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2300 E Meadowlark, Derby.

In lieu of flowers memorials to The Lord's Diner, 520 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS, 67214.

She will be missed, but her spirit is with us always!
