Marvin Floyd "John" Prothro, 88, passed away November 25, 2022. He was born August 15, 1934 to PD and Almeda (Clodfelter) Prothro, in Udall, KS.
John worked for Safeway for 25 years as a meat cutter, market manager and traveled as district manager. He met Annie there at Safeway, where she worked for 13 years.
Following the grocery years, they went into the Rent-To-Own business as a Colortyme Franchisee, owning as many as 21 Centers. There, they earned the Crystal Eagle for Dealer of the Year in 1990.
The business took them on yearly travels to conventions across the nation. They enjoyed RVing to and from the conventions as well as personal travels.
John was a die-hard NASCAR fan. When they weren't at the various NASCAR tracks enjoying the races live, they were home watching the them on TV. The phone rang often from the various friends and family cheering on their rival drivers.
He was a lover of country music. Together, he and Annie attended many concerts.
John was heavily involved with his church and served as a board member for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a great granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Annie Prothro; their children, Jamey Forney, Randy Prothro (Lori), Rhonda McNaught (Dave), Kathy Talley, Barry Talley (Stephanie), Tisha Farbro (Lonnie), Melvin Lucas Jr.; sisters, Lorretta Winter, Pat Griffith; 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Road in Derby, KS, on Monday, December 5, 2022, 6:00-8:00 pm.
Funeral service will be held at Woodland Lakes Community Church, 770 S. Greenwich Rd., Wichita, KS, Tuesday, December 6, 2022, 1:00 pm.
Graveside service will follow in the Belle Plain, Kansas Cemetery.
