Mark James Schafer, was born July 4, 1960 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he was the first “firecracker” born that day at the hospital. He died July 31, 2019 in Wichita, Kansas. Mark grew up in Tulsa and graduated from high school in 1978. He attended Friends Bible College in Haviland, KS for 3 years. One of the highlights of his life was the summer he spent in Alaska working in the Forestry Service. He then returned to Tulsa and graduated from a Drafting course. His next move was to Wichita, KS, working various jobs until he joined the Hein Lawn Service where he worked for over 30 years until his health failed. Mark always enjoyed hunting and shooting with friends and traveling to enjoy the beautiful country and mountains. He enjoyed learning about anything from automobiles to marble, tools and bladesmithing. He loved the Lord and was a member of the Evangelical Friends Church from childhood. He sang in the choir in college and loved the old hymns which he could sing from memory. He enjoyed life and had much he still wanted to experience. He was preceded in death by his father, John Calvin Schafer in 2008. Surviving family members are his mother, Lulu Jean (Hutson) Schafer; sister, Judith M. Schafer and his brother, Steven J. Schafer, all of Wichita, KS. Memorials have been established with the Friends of Kibimba Hospital, Inc, c/o Mid-america, Friends Ministry Center, 2018 W. Interment will be at a later date in Homestead, Oklahoma Cemetery.
