Obituary

Obituary for Mark Schafer

Mark James Schafer, was born July 4, 1960 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he was the first “firecracker” born that day at the hospital. He died July 31, 2019 in Wichita, Kansas. Mark grew up in Tulsa and graduated from high school in 1978. He attended Friends Bible College in Haviland, KS for 3 years. One of the highlights of his life was the summer he spent in Alaska working in the Forestry Service. He then returned to Tulsa and graduated from a Drafting course. His next move was to Wichita, KS, working various jobs until he joined the Hein Lawn Service where he worked for over 30 years until his health failed. Mark always enjoyed hunting and shooting with friends and traveling to enjoy the beautiful country and mountains. He enjoyed learning about anything from automobiles to marble, tools and bladesmithing. He loved the Lord and was a member of the Evangelical Friends Church from childhood. He sang in the choir in college and loved the old hymns which he could sing from memory. He enjoyed life and had much he still wanted to experience. He was preceded in death by his father, John Calvin Schafer in 2008. Surviving family members are his mother, Lulu Jean (Hutson) Schafer; sister, Judith M. Schafer and his brother, Steven J. Schafer, all of Wichita, KS. Memorials have been established with the Friends of Kibimba Hospital, Inc, c/o Mid-america, Friends Ministry Center, 2018 W. I had the distinct pleasure of knowing Mark for a very short time. We worked together and did many jobs together. I was taken immediately by his character and kind heart. We became instant friends. He and I traded stories and shared our hobbies with one another daily. He and I just clicked. He had a kind patience about him that I admired greatly. I am thankful that he is with our Lord now but will so greatly miss this wonderful man that I had the honor of calling my friend. My most heart felt sympathy goes out to his family in this time of loss. May Mark and all the souls of the faithfully departed through the power of God Rest In Peace!!
