Obituary for Marjorie E. Dulaney

Dulaney, Marjorie “Marge” Elaine was born January 19, 1935, in Scandia, Kansas and passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023, in Wichita, Kansas.

Marge was born to the parents of Frank and Margaret Lervold in a small farmhouse in Scandia, Kansas. She had three siblings Dale, Arlene and Eugene who proceeded her in death. Marge graduated from Scandia High School in 1953 where she developed her love for music. As a teen, Marge competed in music competitions and grew her love for singing. Although Marge chose not to attend college, she was offered a musical scholarship from Bethany Lutheran college for her talents. After high school, Marge moved to Wichita, Kansas to live with her sister Arlene. The two of them were inseparable and even worked together at the same bank. Marge met Philip Dulaney through mutual friends while visiting the Bomber dance club. The two would be married on March 10, 1957. After their marriage, Marge and Phil would move to Haysville, Kansas where they had three sons, Michael “Mike, William “Bill,” and Eric.

Marge was a founding member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Haysville. Marge was passionate about her faith in Christ and very involved in her church where she developed numerous close friendships over the years. Marge would continue with her love of singing by being a member of the church choir. Along with the choir, Marge was extremely active in the Resurrection church congregation, including being a member of Altar Guild, WELCA, teaching bible school and any other opportunity she had to contribute her time and talents. She loved preparing for the bake sales, hosting fellowship and the women’s fall bazaar where she worked year-round on her contributions. Marge’s faith was especially important to her, but she still found time to be an avid bowler, a sports enthusiast and even loved playing softball in her younger years.

Marge and Phil had three sons and her greatest enjoyment was being a mother to Mike, Bill, and Eric. She left her job at the bank to take a position with the Haysville School District where she would later retire. Marge was known by her boys’ friends as “Momma Dulaney” and would host a sleepover no matter how many there were. Marge opened her home to friends, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all of whom enjoyed her cooking, baking and her loving nature.

Marge’s love of life, generosity, and smile will be missed by too many to count.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, (Frank and Margaret), her three siblings, (Dale, Arlene, Eugene), her husband, Phil and her son Bill. Marge leaves behind her lasting memories to two of her sons, Mike (Debbie) Eric (Amy), 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and numerous friends and other relatives.
