Obituary for Lawrence Baker

Lawrence Dale Baker “Pop” was born in Wellington Kansas on February 24, 1960, and passed away on April 24, 2021. He attended school in Belle Plaine Kansas where he met the love of his life, Tammie Clewell, in high school, and they were married on September 20, 1980.
Larry worked in asphalt construction where he met many lifelong friends, and was even referred to as a paving legend.
He was an avid fisherman and could often be spotted at Winfield Lake with family and friends. And when he wasn’t fishing, he was talking about fishing and telling the stories.
Larry worked hard and he loved hard. He loved helping and coaching his kids and grandchildren with sports, especially basketball. He also enjoyed being a referee and making sure everyone was following the rules of the game.
He loved traveling to the beaches of Mexico with his beautiful wife and good friends. He loved life and he enjoyed life.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Ruben and Doris Schwabauer, and his uncle Dale Schwabauer.
His life is celebrated by his wife Tammie, daughter Hollie and her husband Jason along with their kids Austin and Emma. His son Bo, and his wife Misti along with their kids Londynn, Haizley, and Jackson. His cousins Melissa Carlson, and Tommy Schwabauer.
A graveside service will be held at Belle Plaine Cemetery on Saturday May 8, at 10:00am. In true Larry fashion, he did not wish to have a sad funeral, but rather a party to celebrate life. Therefore, the family is honoring his wishes with beers, cheers and no tears following the graveside service at the Buckaroo Barn in Belle Plaine Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Larry Baker Memorial Fund in care of Citizens Bank of Kansas- 1033 N Buckner, Derby KS 67037, to provide programming for youth sports.
