Obituary for Karen A. Huber

Wichita — Beloved wife, mother and grandmother Karen Ann Huber, 75, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family March 24 after a long illness.

Karen was born February 25, 1948, to Francis and Evelyn Scrivner in St. Paul, Minnesota. As a child her father’s career required her to move frequently, but her favorite city while growing up was Memphis where she lived directly behind Graceland and spent her free time trying to see Elvis.

She met James Huber while attending Minnetonka High School in Minnesota. The couple was married in 1968 at St. Theresa’ s Catholic Church and remained in love for the remainder of her life. They began their life in Minnesota, and eventually moved to Wichita, Kansas for James’ job. They had four children, and Karen was devoted to raising them. She is the original soccer mom traveling the country supporting her daughters on their various club soccer teams and eventually their college soccer team the Kansas Newman Jets. She was often seen on the sidelines cheering on her daughters and their teammates.

Karen spent the final decades of her life supporting her grandchildren at sporting events and activities, hustling family and friends out of pennies in games of canasta, tending to her garden, sitting peacefully outside on the porch with her husband, watching anything starring Chris Hemsworth, perfecting her fantasy football line up and cheering on her beloved Patrick Mahomes. She will be remembered for her delicious meals and her wicked sense of humor.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband of 54 years, James; children, Tracey Beth (Randy) Fox, Amanda Beth (Mark) McKee, Jamie Beth Shockey, Sarah Beth Lewis; grandchildren, Jordan, Kaitlin, Tyler and Payton Fox, Marshall and Maxwell McKee, Isabel and Amelia Lewis, Lane and Rileigh Shockey; siblings, Timothy (Cheryl) Scrivner; and nephew and niece, Dan (Janey) Scrivner and Debbie (Barry) Hartman.
