Obituary for Karen L. Boocock

Karen Boocock, Beloved Wife, Sister and Daughter, passed away May 19, 2022.
Karen was born to Everett and Mary (Williams) Scovel in Wichita, KS August 24, 1959. She married Andrew M. Boocock May 9, 1987. Karen was a graduate of Derby High School 1977 and earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Karen was an Office Manager for the Roger Turner Company, employed there for more than 33 years.
Karen was a faithful follower of Christ and led by example. She had a generous spirit and wisdom when dealing with people. She was also passionate about Operation Christmas Child and loved packing boxes for the children.
She excelled in her talents in vocal studies where she participated many years in choir, Christmas performances and the traveling Harvest Group from Countryside Christian Church.
Karen was an accomplished accordion player, traveling numerous times back to her alma mater, to perform in the UMKC Community Accordion Orchestra under the direction of Joan C. Sommers which was known as one of the finest accordion orchestras in the world.
Karen loved her family. She grew up as a middle child and excelled at her role as peacemaker. Growing up she enjoyed traveling and camping together as a family. She was an avid reader and participated many years in the Girl Scouts. She deeply loved and was very proud of all her nieces and nephews.
In her adult years, Karen loved her many cats and helped rescue feral cats around her workplace in downtown Wichita and her neighborhood.
She loved to travel and really did her research planning any trip. She would commonly have the trips fully researched for smooth traveling to restaurants, overnight lodging and planned routes that packed multiple points of interest along the route.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Andrew, sisters Susan Hammer and Linda Ingrim (Daniel), nieces/nephews Samantha Hammer, Abigail Hammer, Jessica Hammer, Benjamin Hammer, Trevor Ingrim, Katelin Ingrim, and Bethany Ingrim.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N Rock Rd, Derby, KS.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 27, 2022, at 10:00 am at Countryside Christian Church, 1919 S Rock Rd, Wichita, KS.
Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, 10102 E 95th St. S., Derby, KS
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Countryside Christian Church (Operation Christmas Child) or Victory in the Valley.
