Obituary for James "Jack" P. Hoffman

Mulvane, KS - James “Jack” Peter Hoffman was born June 2, 1935 in Flasher, ND to Robert and Mary (Pfau) Hoffman
and passed away May 3, 2021 in Mulvane, KS.

While growing up in Flasher Jack helped run the family furniture and general store and attended St.
Lawrence Catholic School. He was introduced to Dorothy Haring by family friend Jeanie (Schafer) Kraft.
They were married on April 11, 1959 in Bismarck, ND and started their family. Jack took a job with
Gambles and it moved him and his family to Hamilton, MT, Riverton, WY and eventually to North Platte,
NE in 1976.

He soon went to work for Petroleum Construction and later for Nebraska Safety and Fire Equipment
where he worked until his retirement.
Jack had many pastimes he enjoyed including fishing (especially with his grandkids), gardening, bird
watching and puffing on his ever-present pipe. The time he enjoyed the most, however, was telling
stories while playing a good game of cribbage. He was a devoted father to four children and admired by
his grandchildren. He was also a member of the North Dakota National Guard and Knights of Columbus.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents, his parents-in-law Theodore and Ella Haring,
sisters Roberta Jochim and Judy Hoff, and brother Edwin Hoffman.

He is survived by his children Mark (Sharon) of Derby, KS, Lynda (Jim Cooper) of Grant, NE, Donna (Joe)
Rodriguez of Wellington, CO, Julie (Michael) Elliott of Lenexa, KS, his grandchildren Mari Hoffman, Emily
Rodriguez, Madeline Hoffman, Christopher Rodriguez, Brady Hoffman and Sara (Justin) Barnes, one
great grandchild Corrinne Barnes, numerous nieces and nephews, and many good friends.

A funeral will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte, NE on a date to be determined.
Interment will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND along with the interment of
his wife, Dorothy, who passed away May 4, 2020. In lieu of flowers the family asks you consider a
donation in his name to North Platte Catholic Schools Endowment Fund or the Knights of Columbus.
Please contact his children for funeral and internment dates and times. Their contact information is
available through Smith Family Mortuary.
