Obituary for Gladys A. Kimball

Gladys Ann Kellum Kimball, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at the age of 91. Gladys was born in Uganda, East Africa, on January 13, 1932. Her parents were missionaries, so she grew up in Kenya and attended Rift Valley Academy. She graduated from High School in 1949 in Friendswood, TX and continued her education at Friends University in Wichita, KS. Graduating in 1952 with a B.S.
in Biology and Chemistry she continued on to Nursing School at Wesley Hospital to become an RN. Following in her parents footsteps she traveled back to Africa to be a nurse. She traveled on a cargo ship where she met Bruce Kimball who was traveling to Africa to do some volunteer work. They were married in Kenya in 1957. In 1961 they returned to the States and settled in Wichita, KS. She worked at Wesley Hospital until 1965 then stayed home to take care of her children. Gladys always had a heart for sharing the gospel and continued to do that by teaching Sunday School, organizing VBS, and playing the piano and organ for Derby Friends Church until she was no longer able to do so.

Gladys is proceeded in death by her husband Bruce Kimball, her father and mother, Everett and Ruth Kellum and brother David Kellum. She is survived by; her son Duane Kimball and his wife Alisa; her daughter Kristy Donivan and her husband Doug all from Wichita, Kansas; She was very proud of her grandchildren Brooke (and Adam) Luce, Kaleb (and Lauren) Kimball, Kayla McNaught, Brittany (and Matt) Drummond, Kameron Kimball, Kacey Kimball, Breeze Kimball, Kyra Donivan, Aaron Donivan, Evan Donivan; and seven beautiful great grandchildren. Gladys is also survived by her sister Lorna Long from Wichita, Kansas.

Gladys has always had the Mission Field in her heart. In Lue of flowers, she has requested that donations be given to Friends of Kibimba Hospital. Please make checks out to Friends of Kibimba Hospital and mail to Derby Friends Church, 1034 N Woodlawn, Derby, KS 67037.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Derby Friends Church.
