Obituary for Garry Brashear

Mulvane - Brashear, Garry, 80, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

Garry, “Butch” Brashear was a 55-year member of the IBEW electrical union. He completed his apprenticeship in 1968 at Local Union 124 in Kansas City. Missouri. He worked his entire career as an electrician, including 16 years at Boeing in Wichita. He retired in 2000 and dedicated more time to the hobbies he loved, especially bee-keeping, gardening, and providing ice cream at local events with his custom-made ice cream machine. He was also a member of the Ford Model A club for half a century.

Garry was born at St. Margaret’s Hospital on May 13, 1940 and grew up in Kansas City and Shell City, Missouri. He was married in 1969 to Mary Frances Young of Clearwater, Kansas, with whom he remained until death. He moved to Mulvane, Kansas in 1981 and retired to Belle Plaine.

Visitation: Friday, February 5, 2021, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Smith Mortuary and Funeral Service: 10:00 am, Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Smith Mortuary, Mulvane. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wichita Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Brashear and Edna Loyd; siblings, Ralph, Gilbert, Wayne, and Charlotte.

Garry is survived by his wife, Mary Brashear; three sons, Bruce Brashear (Amy), Lance Brashear (Paulina), and Brent Brashear; daughter, Patricia Raines (Rick); 7 grandchildren; siblings, Carolyn Maxwell, Judy Farmer, Jerry Loyd (Lou).

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to one of two establishments:
