Obituary for Freda "Jan" McDonald

Freda Jeanette (Jan) McDonald, 75, of Rose Hill, Kansas went to heaven to join her husband, best friend, and forever love, Don L. McDonald.

Jan was married to Don for 59 years, which went by far too quickly. Together they raised four children, and were rewarded with eight grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Jan received a Registered Nurse Degree and worked until retirement at Wesley Medical Center in the Neonatal Special Care Unit. She loved working with her tiny patients. Jan’s favorite activities were to travel with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She never turned down an opportunity to explore a new destination or visit one she had already discovered. Jan loved family trips to their Missouri lake house. Jan was an incredible mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Jan was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy (Holland) Chapin, her father Fred Holland, and her brother Eugene Holland. Jan is survived by her children, David McDonald (Theresa), Mary McDonald Harrison (Aaron), Steve McDonald (Lori), and Debra Beth Lowe; her grandchildren, Ashley Whisler (Mike), Lisa McDonald (Denisa), DJ McDonald, Geoffrey Harrison, Jonathon McDonald (Shea), Steven McDonald, Emily Lowe and Chance Lowe; and many great grandchildren. Jan also leaves behind her devoted dog and constant companion, Gabby. Jan is much loved by her family, who will miss her every day.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, April 19, at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.
