Dolores attended North High School from 1947 to 1949, she met her husband Jimmy Baum at Horace Mann middle school. They were married for 51 years and had two children together, Janiece and Gregory. Dolores graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1952 and was a dedicated RN. Dolores retired after after over 50 years of service for Sedgwick County Kansas. Dolores recalled her time working in the pediatric unit as one of the most rewarding experiences in her career, and she maintained strong friendships with fellow nurses and co-workers throughout her life. When the County Hospital closed she continued her nursing career as a psychiatric RN with Comcare. Dolores was caring and thoughtful. She gave generously to charities that supported children and often wrote letters to the editor of the local newspaper advocating on behalf of the most vulnerable in our community. Dolores will be remembered for her bright personality and vivacious sprit. She had a strong work ethic, fun sense of humor, and a talent for bargain hunting. She wore bright colors and drove fast cars. She was truly funny, and her unique wit would surprise and delight those around her. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Elvis. Her propensity for fun and adventure could not overshadow her immense ability to put the needs of others before her own. Her thoughtful guidance and encouraging words were invaluable, and she was always willing to offer a helping hand in times of need. Her grandchildren will deeply miss their Grams and will always remember the fun times they shared together and the warmth and love she gave them.
