Obituary for Denise S. Jehner

Denise S Jehner (Karr) 60 years old, received her angel wings on Monday, March 11, 2024 surrounded by her family and in the comfort of her daughter's home. She was born October 14, 1963 to parents Judith Ann Heaton and Henry Paul Karr in Wichita, Kansas. Preceded in death by: mother Judy Heaton, stepdad Donald Heaton, brother Cody Miller, grandparents Roy (Loretta) Lambert and Anna (Clifford) Hamilton. Survived by her husband, Barry Jehner, daughters Anna Butler, Ashley Cummings (fiancé Brandon Hunsucker), siblings Cheryl O'Toole, Troy Karr, Donnie Heaton, Gaylene Heaton, stepsons Jimmy (Tina) Jehner, Stephen (Kacy) Jehner, grandchildren Kaylee, Christie, Alex, Chris, Ethan, Madisyn, Aly, Bentley, McKena, Serenity and Harper and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Born prematurely, Denise came into this world determined to survive. Growing up she loved playing softball, bowling, and water skiing. Some of her favorite childhood memories include going to the lake every summer where she learned how to water ski. Taking after her mom, she was very good at skiing and joined the Wichita Ski Club becoming a highly rated slalom skier.

After attending Derby High School, Denise fulfilled her dream of completing cosmetology school and began working on McConnell Air Force Base in the barber shop. With a little time, Denise grew her clientele and expanded from doing mostly men's high and tights to running the Beauty Shop next door on base.

One of Denise's passions in life was bowling. She bowled from a young age on leagues and carried her love of the game into adulthood. Throughout her bowling career, Denise achieved many accomplishments and awards. She exceeded even her own expectations and was invited and attended the Men's Pro Bowling Tour in West Virginia. Being the people person she was, Denise loved to share her knowledge with anybody she could help. Coaching her grandson, Chris, in bowling were some of her proudest moments.

Known for her determination, aka stubbornness, big laugh, chipmunk cheeks, beautiful smile, and vivacious personality, Denise would brighten up every room she walked in. She was kind, always put others before herself, and helped anybody she ever came in contact with. Even after surviving a massive stroke at 40, having to learn everything from how to walk to how old she was and that she was married and had children, she pushed through as always and was able to become independent again. Since she was unable to work after her stroke, Denise devoted her time to helping people. Being the selfless person she was, she would do anything from taking her neighbor to chemo to picking up a friend and taking them to the grocery store. Distance put no restrictions on her selflessness. She met friends all across the country, travelled to see them and eventually met her best friend and soul mate, Sue. She moved Sue from Pennsylvania to her home in Douglass and became her full time care giver.

Denise dearly loved her children, Anna and Ashley. She supported them in everything, never missed an event, and always put her girls first. She was always an exceptionally loving mother, even the time when she forgot Anna at the bowling alley. Although her children were her world, Her Kaylee Bug was the light of her life. The world has lost a beautiful soul and another angel has gained her wings.
She will be forever missed, always remembered and never forgotten.
