Obituary for Delbert "Del" Sparr

Wichita - Sparr, Delbert "Del" Gene
91, passed away Friday, September 22nd, 2023. He was born July 15th, 1932 to William Sparr, Jr. and Edith Farley Sparr in Jefferson City, Missouri. His family later moved to Hays, Kansas where he attended high school and Ft Hays State University playing football for both until being drafted into the U.S. Army on September 11, 1953.

Del never knew a stranger and was loved by all. His family was the center of his world. He will be remembered for his honesty, sense of humor, generosity and kindness and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Del was passionate about the American Legion where he served in many capacities for Post 401. He went on to become the 5th District Commander, Vice-Commander and Historian. Then becoming Historian and Master-At-Arms at the State level.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lawanda Lee-Sparr; sister, Rowetta Calp, step children Terri Bryant and Troy Lee.

Delbert is survived by his children, Sara Salyer, Tim Sparr (Lindy), Edie Ariestanto; grandchildren, Wesley Salyer (Kim), Angela Ossman (Brendon), Lauren Sparr, TJ Sparr, Ella Ariestanto; great-grandchildren, Lillian Ossman and Timothy Sparr, III,; and step daughter, Joan Colgan, numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation: Monday, October 2nd, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, 115 South Seneca, Wichita, Kansas 67213. Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023 at Culbertson-Smith Mortuary. Interment with military honors to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
