Obituary for Darryl W. Jones, "The Boilerman"

Darryl W. Jones went up to join the spirit in the sky on March 17th, 2022. Darryl was born on May 25, 1963, in Wichita, KS to Wayne and Faye Jones. Darryl was the 5th of 6 siblings having 2 older brothers (Dennis and Ken), two older sisters (Geneva and Joyce) and a younger sister (Becky).
Darryl grew up in the north Wichita area where he would meet his future wife…eventually…after several attempts, Kelly (Robinson) in high school. Darryl and Kelly would spend the next 44 years together being married 41 of those years and lovingly raised 2 boys (Jason and Heath).
Darryl is known throughout the heartland as “The Boilerman”. He spent more than 40 years in the Industrial Boiler and Burner industry.
Darryl’s hobbies and passions included spending time in the yard with the family, good old westerns, riding dirt bikes, tinkering on anything with a motor in it and driving around Hallett Motor Racing Circuit with his wife Kelly in the passenger seat of their 1977 Datsun 280Z.
Darryl could dismantle, repair, rebuild or construct almost anything. The proof of his skill and craftmanship is in the many projects he completed around his home and for others he would help so many times.
Darryl was a very generous and thoughtful man who was never ashamed to tell you what he thought about something, or to tell you the truth of the matter. He would help anyone who asked for it and even offer it to those who did not.
Darryl is preceded in death by his father Wayne, his mother Faye and his brother Dennis. Darryl is survived by his vast family including his wife Kelly, son Jason (Laura), son Heath (Jessica), sister Geneva (Bo), brother Ken (Debbie), sister Joyce (David), sister Becky, 5 grandchildren (Jonathan, Jacob, Nicholas, ‘Ollie’ and ‘Gracie’), many nephews, nieces, and good family friends.
Services will be held on Saturday March 26, 2022, at 2:00 PM, located at the Smith Family Mortuary 1415 N. Rock Rd Derby, KS 67037. Casual attire requested by Darryl (flannels or pocket T-shirts preferred).
