Obituary for Dale W Atkeson

Atkeson, Dale W. 86, passed away Wednesday, September 20th, 2023, in Wichita KS. He entered this life in Ashland, Kansas on December 25th, 1936, as the younger of two sons born to Jesse and Adella (Petty) Atkeson.

Dale grew up in Protection, Kansas and graduated from Protection High School in 1954. He then graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1958 with his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education followed by his Master's Degree in Administration.

Dale was married to his college sweetheart, Donna Younkin, on August, 1957 in Larned, Kansas. They were married for 66 years.

Before retirement, Dale was a music teacher for 39 years in the Chase, Garfield, Macksville, and Haysville, Kansas school systems. Many of Mr. A’s students have stated that when they had no place in life, he gave them a place in the band. He was a “jack-of-all-trades.” Dale was an auto-mechanic, plumber, electrician, and carpenter. He relished his role as “fixer-upper.”

Dale possessed a deep and abiding faith in-Christ, cherishing his role as a spiritual leader of his family, and influencing the faith of many who knew him. For those who knew him, Dale was a genuine man of God, and a mighty prayer warrior.

Dale is survived by his wife Donna; brother Dennis Atkeson (Ruth); children, Dee Anne Proctor (Dan), Darise Fillmore (Mark), Daniel Atkeson (Wendy), Donelle Rey (Del); grandchildren, Matthew Proctor, Michael Proctor, Andrew Fillmore, Lindsay Witte, Rebekah Sperling, Misty Randolph, Zach Atkeson, Zach Axton, Holly Poore, Elijah Atkeson, Jeremiah Atkeson, Victoria Atkeson, Hunter Rey, Abby Rey, Bella Rey; and 11 great grandchildren.
