Clarence was known to be a football player and basketball player in high school. He met his future wife at her parents (Harry and Maude Paxson’s ) Cafe in Douglass. Shirley was a childhood friend of his sister Luella (Holt) Logsdon. He grew up on the farm and helped his father on it loading hay and other farming duties. He helped drive cattle from Southeast KS to Douglass. He hauled grain for the grain elevator in Douglass for 2 years. He helped lay the new highway 77 that runs by Douglass. Shortly after marrying Shirley he entered the Army and served in Korea during the war as an MP guarding prisoners at Kojodo. When he returned from the war he worked in his uncles’ filling station Hickman Motor Company in Wichita. He then owned a Shelley gas station in Park City. At a later time he worked with his long time friend Kenny Johnson at Kenny’s Eastgate Mobile gas station. He often worked two and even three jobs at a time including Otasco, Jewel T, Amway, and as an Insurance Salesman. He worked at Boeing as a jig builder in his middle age and then Northrop Grumman in California after Shirley’s death. At Northrop he worked on the tooling for the B2 Bomber. During his retirement he owned a store called Grand Pause Place in Augusta KS. He remarried to Sandy Canfield and they shortly moved to California for a few years. After Sandy died and he retired he moved back to Douglass in 1993 to be closer to his kids. His pride and joy was getting to know his grandchildren and great grandchildren and he felt truly blessed by them. He enjoyed going to the senior center in Douglass. His favorite pastime was regaling just about every one he met with stories of his childhood and military time and experiences as an adult and father to his children whom he was very proud of. He was very caring and for a while took a friend to many doctor appointments who we later realized was a relative of his future granddaughter in law. As he aged his daughter DeLynn devoted her life to caring for him his last several years until his death. He was full of life and loved to make people laugh at his Dad jokes and his antics like dancing a jig out of the blue or popping his lower teeth to his lips or quoting little rhymes he made up and saying Korean phrases he learned in the war. He was well loved even by the many nurses he got to know over a short time during the few hospitalizations of his later life. He knew no stranger and was well loved by numerous friends family and yes, people he just met. He is already missed greatly by all even though we are comforted by the knowledge that he is in heaven with the love of his life Shirley and his Lord and Savior.
