Obituary for Cheryl Jean Johnson

Cheryl Jean Johnson, 70, of Belle Plaine, Ks passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at her home.
Born June 6, 1952, in Wellington, KS, she was the oldest daughter of Harold and Elda Jean (Hatfield)
Wenrich. She was raised on a farm near Riverdale, KS and received her education in Riverdale and Belle
Plaine, graduating from Belle Plaine High School in 1970. She then attended Bryan Institute obtaining
knowledge in data entry and computer systems which enabled her to obtain employment at Boeing.
Cheryl took classes at Friends University as well and received her associate degree from Cowley College
in 2019 which was her proudest accomplishment next to her family. In addition to Boeing, she owned
her own business in Lenexa, KS, Sunflower Marketing Group and after selling the business was employed
by Cargill Meat Solutions in Wichita, KS.
Cheryl was united in marriage to Alan Hervey on March 30, 1972. To this union three children were
born. The couple made their home in rural Sumner County and later divorced. Cheryl later married
John Kurt Johnson at a private ceremony in Turon, KS.
She was baptized in the First Methodist Church in Wellington, KS and attended the Belle Plaine
Methodist Church for years before attending Oxford Christian Church. She was active in 4-H as a youth,
loved farming, wheat harvest in particular, was an avid gardener, and thoroughly enjoyed serving her
family burnt food.
Her family includes her husband Kurt Johnson; children Roy (Sheryl) Hervey of Atlanta, Sarah (William)
Morton of Winfield, and John Hervey of Belle Plaine, stepsons Cody (Melissa) Johnson of Laramie, WY
and Casey (Chelsea) Johnson of Wichita, KS; Sister Debra (Ron) Macy of Belle Plaine; her grandchildren
Madeline (Steven) Lambert, Brylan Hervey, Grant Hervey, Logan Lawrence, Brendon Hervey, Cassidy
Lawrence, Wade Hervey, Joey (Rhonda) Morton, and Baillie Morton; great granddaughters Lilyian and
Rosalynn Lambert; nieces Rachel Burnah, Anna (John) Middleton, and Elizabeth (Patrick) Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday March 26, 2023 at Hatfield-Smith Mortuary.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, March 27, 2023 at the Global Methodist Church, Belle Plaine, KS. Interment will follow at the Belle Plaine Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Wichita Children’s Home. Contributions may be made
through the funeral home.
